Laax 20th-22nd December

After hearing news that Laax had already built its pipe we decided we wouldn’t waste any more time waiting for snow in Verbier and drive the 5 hours to film with Paddy Graham. Nick Southwell and myself spent three days solid filming Paddy in the pipe and also managed to get a few shots of Candide Thovex who happened to be there training. Check out the photos of some Flat spins, 9’s and huge airs from paddy as well as a sweet shot of Candide doing a double true nose flair. So despite less than ideal conditions in most of Europe it has been a great first filming month of the season and things will only get better! Thanks to Britta Kaula and everyone at Laax resorts for their help and support.

Diableretes

Despite snow conditions in Verbier improving, on the 7th December Nic Watkins and Nick Southwell took a day trip to Les Diablerets to film with Paddy Graham and Andy Bennett. The park in Les Diablerets was in good condition with varied rails, good sized booters and a monstrous spine. Paddy took full advantage of these features and the two cameramen performing a variety of switch cork tricks and spinning on and off the rails.

Arriving In Verbier

Late Monday night Nick Southwell and myself arrived in Verbier, the following day Naomi Edmondson joined us to find a dark brown mountain that hardly resembled a ski area. After being extremely pessimistic about the conditions, on the 6th of December a torrential rainstorm quickly turned into heavy snow. It was inspiring to see the mountain convert from brown and green to perfect white in a matter of hours. Check back soon for an update of our first days on the slope.
